Stirling Medical Innovations is a 'Start Up' company, formed in April 2005 to create a global centre of excellence in cardiology care.
Based on the use of novel biomarkers or biological indicators, SMI is developing near patient and home use tests for diagnosing and monitoring cardiovascular conditions.
This area was also highlighted by ITI Life Sciences during their foresighting activities and the match of SMI's and ITI Life Sciences' vision resulted in ITI investing £30 million in the technology development as part of their cardiac biomarker programme. Further support has also come from the Scottish Executive and Scottish Enterprise Forth Valley.
